Lydiksen project update

January 24, 2020

Hello, Lydiksen families -

We are excited that the Lydiksen school modernization and rebuild will begin soon! This project was approved and funded through the Measure I1 bond that passed more than three years ago. Many parts of campus will be improved, and construction will include new classrooms, a new library, and a new playground at Lydiksen, with a projected completion date in 2021.

Of course, with a project like this, you and your children will be seeing a lot of change on our campus, starting with the remainder of this school year. For example, beginning soon, student access to traditional recess areas such as the field and playground will be extremely limited, so we will be shifting some of those activities to other areas on campus. Also, our staff parking lot will be removed and rebuilt during the next several months, which means most of our staff will be parking on the neighborhood streets surrounding our campus.

Lydiksen families play an important role during this project. Once the project begins, parking near the school will be very scarce and there may temporarily be no access at the back of the campus for pedestrians and vehicles, which would push all school traffic to the front of the campus along Highland Oaks Drive. For the safety of everyone every day, we need drivers to be aware of their surroundings, park only in designated areas, and follow all traffic laws during drop-off and pick-up times. We are also encouraging families to walk to school, ride bicycles, or take advantage of car pools, if at all possible, which will greatly improve the amount of traffic in our area each day. At the very least, students and their families should anticipate that getting to school each morning will take longer than normal throughout the project, so plan accordingly.

Please know that the safety of our students is always the top priority. While the project is being completed, we will always work to ensure that the Lydiksen campus continues to be the wonderful, safe and positive learning environment that you have come to know and expect every day for your children.

More details will be shared soon, but please contact the school office or visit the Pleasanton Unified website if you would like more information about our school modernization and rebuild.

Thank you for all of your patience, flexibility and support during this exciting time. We look forward to sharing our beautiful campus with everyone when the project is completed next year!
