Early start for grades 1-3

June 2017

Regarding: early start for grades 1-3 students

Dear Lydiksen families:

For the 2017-18 school year, all Pleasanton Unified School District’s grades 1-3 students will participate in an early start schedule twice during the school year. This early start schedule will provide teachers time to assess all students without the loss of instructional time. As a result of these assessments, all students will have the opportunity to receive differentiated small group instruction based on data-driven assessments. While we can all agree that differentiated instruction is a benefit to our children, we know that the shift in scheduling will be a concern for some parents. Please be assured that we are mindful of this, and doing our best to take everyone’s needs into account.

For the first three weeks of the school year (Monday, Aug. 14 through Friday, Sept. 1), all grades 1-3 students will attend school following the “early start” time schedule (8:20 a.m to 2:00 p.m.), with the exception of Wednesdays, when all grades 1-5 students attend from 9:20 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. The week of Feb 5-9 will also be early release for grades 1-3 grade students in order for teachers to re-assess and regroup students. This schedule also includes students in our special day classes.

If your child is in first grade, you will have time during the third week of school to make scheduling arrangements for an early or late staggered schedule during the remainder of the year; second and third grade students do not attend Lydiksen on a staggered schedule during the remainder of the school year. The regular school day schedule will begin on Tuesdsay, Sept. 5.

If you have questions related to the early start schedule, please contact your child’s teacher, Lydiksen Principal Jacob Berg, or the PUSD Curriculum Department at (925) 426-4328. We appreciate your support as we work together to help every child succeed.
